An independent French weekly, Le Canard Enchaine, revealed that the US, "Israeli" and British spy agencies have been directly involved in the recent assassination attacks against the Iranian scientists. Mossad conducted the assassinations "with the help of the CIA and MI6," Le Canard Enchaine said. Intelligence sources told the influential French weekly that the assassinations were part of "Israeli" plots aimed at sabotaging Iran's nuclear program. Earlier this month, Iran announced that security forces have arrested a number of perpetrators of the recent attacks on the country's scientists and university professors. Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said at the time that the confessions made by the arrested terrorists indicated "Israel's" direct role in the attacks. "The world Zionism and their arrogant agents, like Mossad, as well as certain European countries are angry at Iran's progress, and they, thus, resort to terrorist measures against Iranian scientists," Najjar stated at the time. Two Iranian university professors Fereidoon Abbasi Davani and Majid Shahriari were assassinated in separate bomb attacks here in Tehran on November 29 with the latter killed immediately after the blast. Another Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, was also assassinated in a bomb attack in Tehran in January. Iranian officials took the Zionist regime of Israel and US hirelings inside Iran responsible for the terrorist operation. Three days after the attack, Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi announced that his forces have arrested a number of perpetrators. "With the arrest of these people, we have found new clues to arrest the other elements," Moslehi added. "The three spy agencies of Mossad, CIA and MI6 have played a role in these attacks," Moslehi added. The Iranian intelligence minister added that the individuals who cooperated with these espionage services were part of an extensive organization and planned to carry out more attacks but they were arrested.

The body of an American woman who was found stabbed to death near Jerusalem is being flown back to the US, an Israeli church official has said.
Israeli police said on Sunday they had found the body and were investigating whether the killing was political. The US embassy in Tel Aviv identified the victim as Kristine Luken. Ms Luken's travelling companion, who survived the attack, told police two Arab men had set upon them while they were hiking. Friends of Ms Luken, who was 44, attended a memorial service on Thursday in Jerusalem, remembering her as a devout Christian. The survivor, Kaye Susan Wilson, told police that she and Ms Luken - initially identified by Israeli police as Christine Logan - were attacked on Saturday by two Arab men armed with bread knives while walking in the Mata forest, near the town of Beit Shemesh. Ms Wilson said she had played dead and managed to flee the scene and reach the road, where people put her in contact with police. The forest is located inside Israel but close to the West Bank. Israeli police are investigating whether the killing was political but have not ruled out a criminal motive. Ms Luken was a member of the Church's Ministry among Jewish people, a US and UK-based missionary group. By Mohamed Sudam SANAA (Reuters) - Yemeni forces on Saturday arrested a woman believed to be involved in sending explosive packages bound for the United States which triggered a global security alert, a Yemeni security official said. The arrest was the first in the case, in which two air freight packages containing bombs -- both sent from Yemen and addressed to synagogues in Chicago -- were intercepted in Britain and Dubai. "National security forces have just been able arrest the woman," the official said, adding that she had been traced through a telephone number she had left with a cargo company. Yemeni security officials told Reuters the woman was a medical student at Sanaa University and believed to be in her 20s. She was arrested in a poor neighborhood in the west of the Yemeni capital Sanaa. Britain said the device found on Friday on a cargo plane at its East Midlands airport was big enough to down an aircraft. "We believe the device was designed to go off on the aeroplane. We cannot be sure about the timing when that was meant to take place," Prime Minister David Cameron told reporters at Chequers, his country residence outside London. "In the end these terrorists think that our interconnectedness, our openness as modern countries is what makes us weak," he said. "They are wrong -- it is a source of our strength, and we will use that strength, that determination, that power and that solidarity to defeat them." HALLMARKS OF AL QAEDA Dubai had said on Friday that it had found a viable bomb. Officials say the bombs bear the hallmarks of al Qaeda's Yemeni branch, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). At least one bomb included PETN, the explosive used in a failed attempt to blow up a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day last year. The White House said Saudi Arabia had helped to identify the threat, and President Barack Obama thanked Saudi King Abdullah for the "critical role" his country had played. Saudi Arabia has come under huge international pressure to take on al Qaeda since it was found to be the home of most of the attackers who struck the United States on September 11, 2001, killing 3,000 people. The United States has also focused increasingly on Yemen since last year's failed Christmas Day bombing, which AQAP claimed. An official in Washington called Saturday's arrest "a demonstration that Yemen is taking this seriously and cooperation is strong and ongoing." There was a heavy police presence on the streets of Sanaa on Saturday night, with checkpoints throughout the city and on the road to the airport, as police hunted accomplices. WARNING Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said his country was "determined to continue fighting terrorism and al Qaeda in cooperation with its partners," but warned Washington against taking matters into its own hands. "We do not want anyone to interfere in Yemeni affairs by hunting down al Qaeda," he said in a brief appearance before journalists, who were not given an opportunity to ask questions. Saleh said Yemen would like better intelligence cooperation with the U.S., British and Saudi governments. In Washington, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said authorities were checking whether other packages had been sent before the two that were intercepted. "We're doing some reverse engineering, as it were, to identify other packages from Yemen," she said on NBC News. One of the packages was found on a United Parcel Service cargo plane at East Midlands Airport, north of London. The other bomb was discovered hidden in a computer printer cartridge in a parcel at a FedEx Corp facility in Dubai. Dubai's civil aviation authority said that package had been brought in on a Qatar Airways plane that had stopped over in the Qatari capital Doha. UPS and FedEx, the world's largest cargo airline, halted shipments from Yemen. On Saturday, Yemen shut down both companies' operations there, citing security concerns. BRUSSELS - France stands by its law banning burqa-like Muslim veils despite a threatening new message from al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday. In a recently released audio tape, bin Laden threatens to kill French citizens in revenge for France's law to ban Muslim veils that cover the face, and because France has troops in Afghanistan. Sarkozy confirmed that France believes the tape is authentic and said the country would not back down from the new rule. "Obviously, France doesn't let anyone dictate its policies, and certainly not terrorists," Sarkozy said at a European Union summit in Brussels. Sarkozy said his country has made its choice and that it doesn't want women in France "trapped behind pieces of fabric." France says that ensuring gender equality and women's dignity — and upholding a tradition of secularism — are among the reasons France is outlawing fully covering Islamic veils, like niqabs, which hide all but the eyes. The measure has already become law but does not take effect until April. Many Muslims have expressed fears it will stigmatize them. Asked by a reporter about French hostages being held by suspected Islamic militants, Sarkozy said France was working to secure their release. "I didn't need a message from Mr. bin Laden to know to be worried about them," Sarkozy said. Five French citizens and two Africans were kidnapped in Niger on Sept. 16, and an offshoot of bin Laden's terror group called al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb has claimed responsibility. But she insisted she did not humiliate the detainees and said she was surprised the pictures were viewed as offensive. Eden Aberjil struck a defensive tone in a pair of radio interviews, claiming that she did not do anything wrong and that similar things take place "every day" in the army. Both the Israeli army and Palestinian officials condemned Aberjil over the photographs — one of which was accompanied by an exchange with a friend including jokes and sexual innuendoes. Because she has completed her mandatory service, however, it's unclear whether she will face any disciplinary action. Speaking to Israel's Army Radio station, Aberjil called her decision to post the photos, taken in 2008 near the Gaza Strip, "thoughtless and innocent." But she added: "I still don't understand what wasn't OK." "There was no statement in the photos about violence, about disrespect, about anything that would hurt that person. I just had my picture taken with someone in the background," she said. "When I understood that so many people were hurt by those pictures, I removed them." In a separate interview, Aberjil lashed out at the international uproar over the pictures, which were vaguely reminiscent of the snapshots taken in 2003 by American soldiers at an Iraqi prison showing Iraqi detainees, humiliated and terrified. In contrast, the Israeli pictures showed no signs of physical abuse or coercion, and Aberjil denounced any comparisons. "I did not humiliate those detainees. I didn't hit them, I didn't act toward them unpleasantly. It's completely different than the American soldier some are trying to compare me to," she told Israel Radio. She said she was shocked by the international interest in the story, adding she had received calls from European and American media outlets. She attacked her local critics, saying they were more concerned about international criticism than protecting a soldier who bravely served her country. "This is something that happens every day in the army, especially at bases like this," she said, without giving evidence. She called the army's criticism of her a "disgrace," saying she "endangered her life for the country." Contacted by The Associated Press, Aberjil said she did not want to speak to the international media. Palestinians are routinely handcuffed and blindfolded when they are arrested to stop them from trying to flee. One photo showed Aberjil sitting beside a blindfolded Palestinian man slumped against a concrete barrier, while she leans toward him with her face upturned. Another shows her smiling at the camera with three blindfolded Palestinian men behind her. The photos, taken in 2008 near the Gaza Strip, drew sharp criticism from the Israeli military, pro-Palestinian advocacy groups and Palestinian officials. Palestinian Authority spokesman Ghassan Khatib condemned the photos and said they pointed to a deeper malaise — how Israel's 43-year-old occupation of Palestinians has affected the Israelis who enforce it.
